Winter Capsule Wishlist: The Chunky Knit
Since I’m prepping for my winter capsule (the Canadian cold is coming in full force), I’ve been visiting my local thrift stores for items that will help fill in the gaps in my closet. I usually go into a thrift store with a mental shopping list of specific items I want. These items have to fit in my colour palette, be high quality and fit just right.
One of the items on my list was a chunky fisherman style crew neck sweater. This dark mossy green one works great in my winter colour palette and I’ve styled it here with my current fall wardrobe staples: mom jeans, black booties and my fav Moto jacket.
I think this sweater was hand knit because there are no tags (not even a care label) on the inside and no stitching to indicate that someone cut the tags out of it. I love that it’s a little oversized and has a cool unique texture. It feels like a special piece that I’ll definitely love for years to come! I did have to sew up a little hole in it, but the stitching hides itself amongst the knit texture so it’s invisible. If you find a textured sweater with a hole in it, a blanket stitch is a great, easy way to fix it up quickly!
I layered a t-shirt underneath the sweater (which you can see at the neckline) just in case it happened to be itchy for my ultra-sensitive skin, but turns out it’s not itchy at all! Win-win. But I still think the layered T kind of looks cool underneath.
I also doubled up on the necklaces and I think the pop of gold on the otherwise pretty dark top portion of the outfit added some nice visual interest.
The other things on my winter capsule wish list are:
1. Wool trousers (preferably in a grey)
2. Something in a pink or dusty rose (loungewear?)
3. Wool skirt (an a-line mini style that’ll look great with tights and boots)
4. A black classic long sleeve crew neck ( a basic that I don’t own!)
It’s not a crazy long list which is great and some of these items have been on it since last year (that skirt just seems to be hard to find!). I used to have a black long sleeve crew neck but it fell apart last year and was unfixable - I just haven’t found a good replacement yet!
