Eloise & Lily: Linen T-shirt Review

Buying Canadian-made items is one of my goals for my wardrobe in the future. Now, there is probably no way my entire wardrobe will be 100% Canadian-made because frankly, it’s very expensive and there are only so many Canadian brands that manufacture in Canada, align with my style and with my budget. Mostly everything I've seen is a bit of a splurge but I do think if it’s an item that is a classic basic - I can invest a bit more into it.

Enter… Etsy. Etsy is a place where people can launch their small businesses and have an easy platform to make sales. I like that on Etsy, I can filter my search items to Canadian-made items. I recently ordered from a shop called Eloise & Lily and I thought I would give you a review on the entire process and product.

I purchased this item on April 23, it shipped out on May 4th and I received it on May 10, 2020. So it was really quick - just a little over 2 weeks - which is speedy since these items are made-to-order by Tammy, the owner of Eloise & Lily. I purchased the Linen Tee in an XXS in the colour Natural.

Quality

The linen of top feels very high quality. You can see and feel the mid-weight linen texture and it’s substantial enough that this top is not see-through at all and will equally transition well into the cooler autumnal months. The top is pre-washed and pre-shrunk and did wonderfully when I threw it in the wash.

I also think the colour options for all Eloise & Lily items are great. Tammy chooses neutrals that are timeless and styles that can work for so many people. Her product, packaging and shipping shows care and quality: in the style choice, sewing and materials.

Fit

This top is a boxier fit and there is no “traditional” shoulder seam - so you can shift between sizes depending on the type of look you’re going for (the shoulder seam normally “gives away” when an item fits or doesn’t)! I’m normally a size XXS or XS and I have a smaller upper body so I didn’t want to size up and get swamped by the top.

It has a boatneck cut which does sometimes means my bra straps peek through the neckline (but I’m not fussed by that). I’m 5’2” and untucked, the top ends at my hips and covers most of my booty (but if you want it longer, I’m sure sizing up would add some length!). I would also wear this top tucked into jeans or a skirt.

Eco

I love that the packaging of Eloise & Lily is conscious. Upon delivery, I opened up the EcoEnclose, 100% recycled mailer bag (that can be reused - it has an extra adhesive strip for future use). Inside was a shallow box that opened up to reveal the top: folded in a paper sleeve with the sizing and colour marked, as well as a little note that explains washing instructions. Everything is recyclable or reusable and there was no unnecessary tape or plastic.

I understand that some people may find the mailer bag unnecessary, however in the rainy (and snowy) Canadian weather - especially in early Spring - some waterproofing is really necessary when sending packages.

Overall I’m really happy with my Linen Tee from Eloise & Lily and I’m definitely interested in supporting this Canadian business again! I received a high quality, versatile, classic piece. For $75, I think this is definitely worth it. I’m really interested in trying one of her three-quarter sleeved tops (probably in black), especially since the mid-weight linen will be wonderful in the Fall and Winter too.

I’m so excited that I’ve discovered Eloise & Lily, and am really glad I’ve made this step into the Canadian-made direction!
